Michelle Shocked. Los Angeles. For over 20 years, acclaimed picker-poet Michelle Shocked has been generating compelling lyrics and mneumonic melodies. In the ’80′s, she was thrust into an inadvertent recording career when a bootleg tape was released in England.
About Michelle Shocked. In the mid-'80s, Shocked represented the acceptable face of the iconoclastic "anti-folk" movement, but her bare-bones acoustic sound soon gave way to a larger ideal that incorporated bluegrass, roots-rock, and even swing. Though her media star dimmed by the mid-'90s, her music remained as powerful as ever.

According to Elizabeth Wurtzel at The Cut, the image is real — the photo was taken at a demonstration in San Francisco during the 1984 Democratic convention.
