Meseret Defar Tola (Amharic: መሠረት ደፋር; born 19 November 1983) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes chiefly in the 3,000 metres and 5,000 metres events. She has won medals at top-tier international competitions including Olympic and World Championship gold medals over 5,000 metres.

3 de jun. de 2006 · Ethiopia's Meseret Defar shaved 0.15 seconds from the World 5000m record of 14:24.68 when she ran 14:24.53 at New York City's Icahn Stadium. She was paced by Irina Vashchuk and U.S. miler Christin Wurth-Thomas. She aims to break the record even faster and compete in the Golden League meets.
7 de mar. de 2024 · Just before the bell sounded in the women’s 3000m final at the 2004 World Athletics Indoor Championships, Meseret Defar slipped into the lead. The diminutive 20-year-old Ethiopian was swiftly passed by her towering 30-year-old compatriot, Berhane Adere.
