Merton College (in full: The House or College of Scholars of Merton in the University of Oxford) is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in England. Its foundation can be traced back to the 1260s when Walter de Merton , chancellor to Henry III and later to Edward I , first drew up statutes for an independent academic community and established endowments to support it.

Welcome to Merton College. Our community of scholars, founded in 1264, formed the model for all subsequent Oxford and Cambridge colleges. Since then we have fostered generations of academic and cultural leaders in many fields.

Graduates slightly outnumber undergraduates, an unusual situation for a mixed college. Merton College is strongly committed to the College Adviser system, and to providing ample opportunities for graduates to participate in, and benefit from, college life in general.
