Meredith Monk è nata il 20 novembre 1942 da Audrey Lois (Zellman) Monk e Theodore Glenn Monk a New York.Sua madre, cantante professionista conosciuta con il nome di scena di Audrey Marsh, era anch'essa figlia di musicisti professionisti: il baritono basso russo Joseph B. Zellman, e Rose (Kornicker) Zellman, una pianista di origine ebreo-tedesche di Filadelfia.

A compilation, Beginnings, arrived on John Zorn's Tzadik label in 2009 and featured Monk's works from 1966 through 1980. Along with her original pieces, the set included the song Candy Bullets and Moon, which was co-composed with Don Preston (who also played organ and percussion on the track).

24 de abr. de 2024 · Meredith Monk (born November 20, 1942, New York City, New York, U.S.) is an American performance artist, a pioneer in the avant-garde, whose work skillfully integrated diverse performance disciplines and media. Monk studied piano and eurythmics from an early age. She earned a B.A. in 1964 from Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, New York.
