In 1976, Johnny McGhee (guitar) joined the band. By this time Jeffrey Osborne became the group's primary lead vocalist, with Melvin Webb taking over on drums in 1977. Webb was replaced by Alvino Bennett in late 1978.
The band also replaced its drummer Melvin Webb with Eddie Summers, a resident of Los Angeles. The managers decided to change their name from the Sinceres to Bloodstone. Later the group traveled to London, England [1] where they signed a recording contract with Decca Records.

Biography. Melvin "Ted" Webb Sr. was the son of Alexander Webb and Amanda Butcher. He was the paternal grandson of William Webb, Jr. and Isabelle Music and maternal grandson of Simon Peter Butcher and Clarinda Jane Webb. He was a third cousin of Maybelle (Addington) Carter of the Carter Family.
