While it is far from being a terrible record (it is actually quite impressive), it pales in comparison to the incredible potential displayed on their first album.
The Smiths would prove themselves as a singles act, releasing an onslaught of infectious tunes that mostly escaped inclusion on their studio albums. The classic’s production was handled by all members of The Smiths with assistance from English music producer Stephen Street. It is noteworthy to state that “Meat is Murder” was recorded straight away without any demo recording.

Meat is murder is het tweede studioalbum van de Britse alternatieve rockgroep The Smiths.Het album werd op 11 februari 1985 uitgebracht door Rough Trade Records en is het enige album van The Smiths dat de top van de UK Albums Chart bereikte.
