Among his other notable movies are The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), The Exorcist (1973), and Three Days of the Condor (1976).
Max von Sydow pääsi ylioppilaaksi vuonna 1947 ja opiskeli Dramatenin näyttelijäkoulussa vuosina 1948–1951. Hänen oppilastovereitaan olivat muun muassa Ingrid Thulin, Allan Edwall ja Margaretha Krook. Myöhemmin von Sydow oli kiinnitettynä Dramateniin 13 vuoden ajan vuodesta 1960 lähtien.
