Mary Karr (born January 16, 1955) is an American poet, essayist and memoirist from East Texas. She is widely noted for her 1995 bestselling memoir The Liars' Club. Karr is the Jesse Truesdell Peck Professor of English Literature at Syracuse University.
Mary Karr is an award-winning author of The Liars' Club, Cherry, Lit, and Tropic of Squalor, as well as a best-selling memoirist and a songwriter. She is also a professor of literature at Syracuse University and a regular contributor to The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Poetry magazine.
