Marsalis Music is a jazz record label founded by Branford Marsalis in 2002. After 20 years with Columbia , saxophonist Branford Marsalis left to start his own label. Early musicians to the label included Miguel Zenón , a Puerto Rican saxophonist, Doug Wamble , a guitarist from Tennessee, and Harry Connick Jr. , who, like the Marsalis family, is from New Orleans.

That should change when Marsalis Music Honors Michael Carvin is released on March 14, 2006.
Born in Tokyo, pianist Yayoi Ikawa has lived in New York for the past eight years. After finishing a Bachelor’s degree at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, she’s now pursuing a Master’s in jazz performance, composition, and film scoring. “I dig her a lot,” says Carvin, “because she understands my concept.
“I’m glad I got the opportunity to work with Branford, because he’s been my guy since he was born, and the recording turned out even better than I hoped.” Marsalis Music Honors Jimmy Cobb, together with Marsalis Music Honors Michael Carvin, was released on March 14, 2006.
