Of the “Big 3” of Italian horror filmmakers—Mario Bava, Dario Argento, and Lucio Fulci—Bava seems, on the basis of my admittedly unscientific research, to be the least well known. If one were to do even a cursory perusal of those corners of the internet that care about such things, one would find ample discussion of Argento and Fulci but relatively little about Bava.
