Margaret Rutherford . war die Tochter von William Benn und Florence Rutherford († 1895). Ihr Vater galt als geisteskrank, er erschlug am 4. März 1883 seinen eigenen Vater, den Reverend (Pfarrer) Julius Benn, mit einem Nachttopf. 1904 wurde er in das Broadmoor Hospital für kriminelle Geisteskranke eingewiesen und daraus erst sieben Jahre später in die Obhut seines Bruders John Benn entlassen.
