Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr. ONH (17 August 1887 – 10 June 1940) was a Jamaican political activist. He was the founder and first President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL, commonly known as UNIA), through which he declared himself Provisional President of Africa.

9 de nov. de 2009 · Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican-born Black nationalist and leader of the Pan-Africanism movement, who advocated for the rights and unification of people of African descent worldwide. He founded the Negro World newspaper, a shipping company and a fraternal organization, and was a civil rights activist in the U.S. He was arrested and jailed for mail fraud and died in prison in 1940.
