Samuel James Maghett dit Magic Sam, né le 14 février 1937 à Grenada, dans l'État du Mississippi, et mort le 1 er décembre 1969, est un guitariste et chanteur de blues américain. Il est souvent considéré comme l'un des créateurs du style de blues « West Side », aux sonorités rudes, issu du West Side de Chicago.
Samuel Gene Maghett, known as Magic Sam, was an American Chicago blues musician. He was born in Grenada County, Mississippi, and learned to play the blues from listening to records by Muddy Waters and Little Walter. After moving to Chicago at the age of 19, he was signed by Cobra Records and became well known as a bluesman after the release of his first record, "All Your Love", in 1957.
Before Magic Sam scored with 1967’s West Side Soul (Delmark 615) his recorded legacy included a handful of sides for Cobra in the late `50s, Chief in the early `60s and a few miscellaneous 45s in the mid-`60s. But just when it looked like things were going to really take off for Sam he passed away on December 1, 1969 at the age of 32.
