Magna Carta is a progressive rock / folk rock group, originally formed in London in April 1969. [1] Their first concert was on 10 May 1969, by Chris Simpson (guitar, vocals), Lyell Tranter (guitar, vocals), and Glen Stuart (b. Alastair Urquhart, vocals).

His contribution to the beginnings of Magna Carta is immeasurable and it shaped the way the road was to run for the years ahead. I loved Lyell as a musical brother and a friend.

Sus primeros pasos fueron dados en 1969, cuando en la ciudad británica de Yorkshire, Chris Simpson (nacido el 13 de julio de 1942) se unió al cantante Glen Stuart y al guitarrista australiano Lyell Tranter para conformar un terceto folk al que llamaron Magna Carta.
This concert was recorded by the BBC, but unfortunately the recordings were initially lost. After decades of searching, Chris Simpson managed to find them in the archives and, after much legal wrangling, they were released on cd in 2014. Lyell Tranter married and returned to Australia.
