Luigi Pirandello is one of the most famous Italian writers of the twentieth century, both in Italy and across the world. Born in Agrigento, Sicily, in 1867 to a well-off family that invested in local sulfur mines, he ultimately spent significant time in major cities across Europe, including living abroad in Germany (first Bonn, later Berlin), and traveling worldwide.
