Luca Ghini, ( * 1490, Imola - 4 de mayo de 1566), fue un médico y un botánico italiano, destacado por haber creado el primer herbario con registros. Estudio Medicina en la Universidad de Bolonia. En 1544, prepara su primer herbario y funda, el mismo año, el Jardín botánico de Pisa, gracias al empuje de Cosme I de Médici.

Ghini founded the Botanical Garden (Orta dei semplici) in Pisa in 1544--the first academic botanical garden and the first establishment of an institution for research and teaching. He is described as a highly regarded physician.
La formacion del primer herbario se atribuye a Luca Ghini (1490-1556), que fue a su vez fundador del jardin botanico más antiguo de cuantos existen hoy en dia, el de Pisa, en 1544. Ese primer herbario empezo a prepararse entre 1530 y 1540, cuando Ghini ensenaba en la Universidad de Bolonia.

Luco Ghini did not publish any works of merit but he made great contributions to the history of botany in his teaching in Bologna and Pisa.
