Louie Bellson with his 1946 double bass kit. Louie’s return to the Ted Fio Rito band in 1946 marked his first use of two bass drums. But he’d actually had the idea back in 1938, when he was still in high school. That idea was at least partly prompted by the fact that Louie was completely ambidextrous.

Louie Bellson, while giving a clinic at the 1999 Hollywood Vintage Drum Show, is reunited with his Billy Gladstone Custom Snare Drum. Billy Gladstone was the featured percussionist at Radio City Music Hall during the years 1932 to 1950.
