  5. Count Basie. Louie Bellson (1924–2009) Luigi Balassoni went by the stage name of Louie Bellson and was an American jazz drummer, composer, arranger, bandleader and jazz educator. He was the featured drummer in all the major big bands of the 1940s including the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He is credited with pioneering the use of two bass drums.
