In 1984, Campbell left Chicago for Europe, living first in the Netherlands and later in Duisburg, Germany, where he remained for ten years before returning to Chicago. Campbell's last album was Spider Eating Preacher (Delmark, 2012). It was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2013 in the category Traditional Blues Album.

19 de feb. de 2010 · En Chicago se reencontró con viejos amigos y al año siguiente acompañó a Luther Allison en el festival de blues de Chicago junto con Otis Rush, quedando registrada esta aparición en el medley «Gambler’s Blues / Sweet Little Angel» de 10 minutos que saldría en el disco de Ruf Records «Live In Chicago» de Allison.
