The school moved to Lawnswood and took the name Lawnswood High School to share a site with Leeds Modern School for Boys. The two schools are separated by a joint swimming pool and dining room. 1972.

  4. The school was founded in 1972 and had its first comprehensive intake in 1974. Its predecessors were the Leeds Modern School, a boys' grammar school (founded 1845) attended by Alan Bennett, and Lawnswood High School for Girls, a girls' grammar school (founded 1854), which moved to the current Lawnswood site in 1932.

  5. The school song of Leeds Modern School was written sometime prior to 1957; words by Frank Holland (Headmaster) and music by Bernard Fletcher (Music teacher). Grateful thanks go to ‘Chat’ (aka Tony Chatterton ’57-’64) for providing a stirring rendition of ‘Four Square She Stands’, played on a 1960s Baldwin organ.
