The Johannesburg-born, Perth-raised singer-songwriter was 20 when it came out. He’d already found fame as a YouTuber, and publicly came out as gay on the platform in 2013. Blue Neighbourhood followed two years later.
I decided to check this out considering that I really enjoyed vol 2 and vol 3 is releasing very soon as of the date that I am typing this. Tkay Maidza's 'Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 1' while not as ambitious as its successor, is still a pretty solid EP.

A companion EP, Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2, appeared in August 2020 and included the track "You Sad." Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 3, arrived in 2021 and included the singles "Kim" with Yung Baby Tate, a cover of Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?, and "Onto Me." It took home the ARIA Award for Best Soul/R&B Release.
