Léopold Sédar Senghor (Joal, Senegal, 9 de octubre de 1906 - Verson, 20 de diciembre de 2001) fue un poeta y político senegalés que llegó a la jefatura del Estado de Senegal. Además, fue catedrático de Gramática, ensayista, y miembro de la Academia francesa.
Léopold Sédar Senghor (/ s ɒ ŋ ˈ ɡ ɔːr /; French: [sɑ̃ɡɔʁ]; 9 October 1906 – 20 December 2001) was a Senegalese poet, politician, and cultural theorist who was the first president of Senegal (1960–1980). Ideologically an African socialist, Senghor was one of the major theoreticians of Négritude.
Primer presidente de Senegal, poeta y líder cultural. Nacido en 1906 en una familia de comerciantes acomodados, estudió en París y se integró en el partido socialista francés. Se distanció de Mamadou Dia y formó su propio partido, la Unión Progresista Senegalesa. Gobernó el país durante veinte años, lanzando la negritud como expresión cultural y política.
