The country is open, generally flat, with a slight rise in the centre of the township of some 130 ft. above sea-level.

(fn. 1) Its area is about 6,000 acres, of which 2,495 are arable land, 3,177 permanent grass and 293 woods and plantations. (fn. 2) The subsoil is Red Sandstone with recent Alluvium by the Swale.
