King Lear suffers the same fate that a lot of modernized Shakespeare adaptations do: they modernize the setting and then they don't update the dialogue (they might as well be speaking Greek). However, Anthony Hopkins turns in such a good performance as King Lear that I thought: is his character supposed to be borderline? Just a thought. He belches.
