Kenyon College ( / ˈkɛnjən / KEN-yən) is a private liberal arts college in Gambier, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1824 by Episcopal Bishop Philander Chase. It is the oldest private institution of higher education in the state of Ohio and enrolls approximately 1,800 undergraduate students.
This tiny midwestern liberal arts mainstay is Ohio’s oldest private college, and is filled with “uniquely quirky and motivated” students and faculty alike.
Kenyon College, the oldest private college in Ohio, was founded in 1824 by Philander Chase, the first Episcopal bishop of Ohio. The poet and literary critic John Crowe Ransom taught at Kenyon from 1937 to 1958 and founded the influential literary journal The Kenyon Review in 1939.
