Il Kazakistan è membro dell' Organizzazione della cooperazione islamica (OIC), delle Nazioni Unite e dell'UNESCO dal 1992, OSCE, della Comunità degli Stati Indipendenti (CSI) e dell' Organizzazione mondiale del commercio (OMC). Il Kazakistan ha aderito al Trattato di non proliferazione nucleare nel 1993.
