The group's early line-up consisted of Ari Up (Ariane Forster) and Palmolive (a.k.a. Paloma Romero, who played briefly with Spizzenergi and later left to join the Raincoats), with Viv Albertine and Tessa Pollitt replacing founding members Kate Korus and Suzy Gutsy.

Mo-dettes were an English all-female post-punk band, formed in 1979 by guitarist Kate Korris, an original member of the Slits and brief member of the Raincoats, and bassist Jane Crockford, former member of Bank of Dresden.

The original lineup of the The Slits consisted of Ari Up ( Arianna Forster) on lead vocals, Kate Korus on guitar, Suzy Gutsy on bass and Paloma Romero on drums. Korus and Gutsy were replaced early on by Tessa Pollitt on bass and Viv Albertine on guitar.
Guitar-wielding expatriate American Kate Korus (real name Katherine Corris) was a founding member of The Slits, who at the time had more enthusiasm for just being a group than for actually playing anything approaching music, so she left early on, “determined never, ever, to be with a group who didn’t know what they were doing”.
