  3. Born and raised in Southern California, Karla Bonoff was a songwriter by the age of fifteen. She and her sister Lisa were writing songs and playing as a duo titled the Daughters of Chester named after their father, Dr. Paul Bonoff.

Souther on background vocals, and, of all things, Garth Hudson on accordian. Finally, Israeli singer Esther OFarim sings the original melody and lyrics (in modern English). As you see, the tune hasn’t changed.
