Karl August Hanke (Lauban, Silesia; 24 de agosto de 1903 - Neudorf, Sudetes; 8 de junio de 1945) fue un político alemán, miembro del Partido Nazi y Gauleiter de la Baja Silesia, con sede en Breslavia.
Karl August Hanke (24 August 1903 – 8 June 1945) was an official of the Nazi Party (NSDAP) during its rule over Germany who served as the fifth and final Reichsführer of the Schutzstaffel (SS). He also served as Gauleiter of Gau Lower Silesia from 1941 to 1945 and as Oberpräsident of the Prussian Province of Lower Silesia .
Karl Hanke fue nombrado comandante y emprendió la desalentadora tarea de convertir una ciudad ilustrada en una fortaleza. Se construyeron dos anillos defensivos alrededor de la ciudad (con algunas fortificaciones a 20 kilómetros del centro), se almacenaron suministros y se movilizaron las tropas.

Karl Hanke was a Gauleiter of Lower Silesia, a Propaganda Minister, a Reserve Wehrmacht officer and a member of the Allgemeine-SS. He was promoted to Reichsführer-SS by Hitler after Himmler was declared a traitor, but he was executed by partisans before he could assume the role.
