Karamu House in the Fairfax neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, United States, is the oldest producing Black Theatre in the United States opening in 1915. Many of Langston Hughes 's plays were developed and premiered at the theater.
KARAMU HOUSE is a neighborhood settlement that became nationally known for its dedication to interracial theater and the arts. It was founded in 1915 by two white social workers and supported by the Second Presbyterian Church. It produced plays with interracial casts, hosted a theater company, and supported African-American artists and culture.
