The Carter Family was a traditional American folk music group that recorded between 1927 and 1956. Their music had a profound influence on bluegrass, country, Southern Gospel, pop and rock music, as well as on the U.S. folk revival of the 1960s.. They were the first vocal group to become country music stars, and were among the first groups to record commercially produced country music.

In 2009, the band Lulu and the Lampshades combined the song "When I'm Gone" with a common children's game known as the cup game, in which cups are tapped and hit on a table to create a distinct rhythm. This created the modern version of the song known as "Cups (When I'm Gone)" or alternately "When I'm Gone (Cups)". [3]
2 de jul. de 2002 · I am from the same area as the Carter Family and as a kid, I can remember going to the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, VA and flat-footing, probably badly, to bluegrass music. This book was also masterfully written and very enjoyable, giving cradle-to-grave biographies on each of the original members, Sara, A.P., and Maybelle.
