Judith Ann Jamison (pronounced JAM-ih-son) (born May 10, 1943) is an American dancer and choreographer. She is the artistic director emerita of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Judith Jamison, American modern dancer whose elegant, striking presence helped make her an immediate success with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Ailey choreographed Cry expressly for Jamison, and it became her signature piece. Jamison later became the artistic director of the company.
Judith Jamison joined Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1965 and quickly became an international star. Over the next 15 years, Mr. Ailey created some of his most enduring roles for her, most notably the tour-de-force solo Cry .

She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and studied ballet, kinesiology and African American dance at various institutions.
