I consider it the ‘original’ one instead of Ju-on: The Grudge because it’s the first feature length movie in the series, and we slightly see the origin story here. Ju-on: The Curse is by far the scariest movie in the entire Ju-on/The Grudge universe. It was shot on video, so it makes it seem like you are watching someone’s home movies.

Ju-on: The Grudge 2 (呪怨2 じゅおん2) is a 2003 Japanese horror film written and directed by Takashi Shimizu.It is the fourth installment in the Ju-on film series and the second to be released theatrically. As the grudge curse spreads all around, the spiteful spirits of Kayako and Toshio find a chance to live once again through the pregnancy of a cursed woman.
Ju-on: The Grudge doesn't really have a story, outside of the gradually unfolding explanation as to what happened to Kayako in order to turn her house into a gateway to Hell. The budget is barebones, which forces a number of stylistic choices and casting decisions that should have just strangled the film from birth.
