Johnny Hates Jazz se formó en 1986, siendo integrado por Clark Datchler, Calvin Hayes y Mike Nocito. El nombre viene de un amigo de ellos que odiaba el jazz. Aunque sólo contaba con 22 años, Datchler era algo experimentado, pues era hijo de un saxofonista de un grupo de jazz y ya había lanzado algunos singles como solista en 1984.

Johnny Hates Jazz are a British pop band, currently consisting of Clark Datchler (songwriter, vocalist, keyboards) and Mike Nocito (guitarist, bassist, producer, engineer). In April 1987, they achieved international success with their single "Shattered Dreams".

Johnny Hates Jazz parted ways at the height of their success, and were to be the last electronic band to emerge in the 1980’s. However, after many years of pursuing individual projects, Clark and Mike decided to reunite in 2010, resulting in the 2013 album “Magnetized”.
