John Trudell (February 15, 1946 – December 8, 2015) was a Native American author, poet, actor, musician, and political activist. He was the spokesperson for the Indians of All Tribes ' takeover of Alcatraz beginning in 1969, broadcasting as Radio Free Alcatraz.
John Trudell was a poet, fighter for Native American rights, and leader of the American Indian Movement. He was born on a reservation in Nebraska, served in the military, and experienced the Vietnam War and the occupation of Alcatraz Island. He also faced racism, injustice, and tragedy in his life, but found his voice through poetry and music.
