Portrait by Bass Otis. John Leamy (1757 – December 4, 1839) was an Irish-born American merchant who pioneered Philadelphia 's trade with the Spanish colonies in the Americas. He was a founder of the Insurance Company of North America and the Hibernian Society.

John Leamy (1757–1839) accumulated a substantial fortune through trade with the Spanish Empire following the American Revolution. This immigrant from Ireland, via southern Spain, was the key player in establishing Philadelphia's dominant role in Cuban markets during the 1790s.
