4 de feb. de 2016 · John Le Mesurier was one of Britain’s best loved character actors thanks to his stage work, regular spots on ‘Hancock’s Half Hour’ and always excellent supporting roles in films like ‘The Italian Job’ and ‘The Pink Panther’. Despite the fame, adulation and fortune that came his way while playing Wilson, Le Mesurier’s life was sadly filled with heartache and tragedy.

Actor. There are some wonderful scenes in the post-Bondian spy spoof Where the Spies Are (d. Val Guest, 1965) where John Le Mesurier's air of perplexed foreboding as a harassed MI6 chief (lamenting the incompetence of his department: "We're a figment of modern folklore") helped raise an otherwise light comedy to occasional heights of comic brilliance.
15 de mar. de 2020 · John Le Mesurier always considered himself a “jobbing actor” and will always be remembered for his role as Sergeant Wilson in Dad’s Army. Despite this he appeared in more than 120 films , normally in smaller supporting roles alongside countless stage roles. He appeared in both of Tony Hancock’s films The Rebel and The Punch And Judy Man.
