John J. Dunbar (1828-1918), also known as Šuŋgmánitu Tȟáŋka Ób Wačhí ("Dances with Wolves"), was a US Army First Lieutenant who served in the American Civil War before defecting to the Sioux Indians while posted to Fort Sedgwick, Colorado.
