Joel Larson (born April 29, 1947) is an American rock drummer and percussionist who is known as a founding member of The Merry-Go-Round and for being associated with The Turtles and The Grass Roots.
Joel Larson, a gay man from Des Moines, Iowa, was shot and killed by Jay Johnson, a 24-year-old aspiring serial killer, in July 1991 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Johnson confessed to the crime and was sentenced to life in prison for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

He learned and practiced his artistry in two key cities in California, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
