Others held responsible a prudish public who refused to be aroused by the outré style of the world’s first openly gay rock star. But what’s not often mentioned is that few got Jobriath’s sardonic sense of humour, either.
Jobriath was a glam-rock singer, songwriter, and entertainer who recorded only two unsuccessful albums. Historians consider him the first openly gay rock musician. Once a member of the original Los Angeles run of the musical "Hair", Jobriath then relocated to New York, where he recorded one album (1969) with the progressive rock group Pidgeon .
