Monster is an album by American jazz organist Jimmy Smith arranged by Oliver Nelson. On the Billboard albums chart, Monster peaked at number 35, and at 5 on the top R&B albums chart. Writer Gerald Majer critiqued Monster in his 2013 book of essays, The Velvet Lounge: On Late Chicago Jazz.
During a South African tour, they recorded the album Jimmy Smith Plays for the People in 1978. Smith had a career revival in the 1980s and 1990s, again recording for Blue Note and Verve, and for Elektra and Milestone.
Smith scored more hit albums on Verve from 1963 to 1972, many of them featuring big bands and using fine arrangements from Oliver Nelson. These included the excellent Walk on the Wild Side and Jimmy & Wes: The Dynamic Duo, a collaboration with guitarist Wes Montgomery.

14 de jul. de 2022 · Though he began recording as a leader in 1959, Nelson’s breakthrough came in 1961 with “The Blues and the Abstract Truth,” (Impulse) featuring an all- star septet of; Eric Dolphy, Bill Evans, Roy Haynes, Paul Chambers and Freddie Hubbard.
