James Stanley McGovern (born September 1949) is an English screenwriter and producer. He is best known for creating the drama series Cracker (1993–1995), for which he received two Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America .

Jimmy McGovern is a writer and producer, known for The Street (2006), Cracker (1993) and Moving On (2009). He was born in Liverpool, England, UK, in 1949. He had a stammer until he was 9 years old and developed characters with stammers in his work. He is one of 9 children and has a brother who was a teacher. He developed a series of stories for the BBC film drama Cracker with Robbie Coltrane.
