Jimmie Rodgers wurde 1897 als jüngster von drei Söhnen geboren – wahrscheinlich nahe Meridian, Mississippi. Nach dem frühen Tod seiner Mutter zogen ihn Verwandte in Mississippi und Alabama auf.
