James Edward Carter OBE (born 19 August 1948) is an English actor. He is best known for his role as Mr Carson in the ITV historical drama series Downton Abbey (2010–2015), which earned him four nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (2012–2015).
Jim Carter is a British actor born in 1948, known for roles in Downton Abbey, Shakespeare in Love and Transformers: The Last Knight. He has been married to Imelda Staunton since 1983 and is a cricket lover.

James Earl Carter Jr. (born October 1, 1924) is an American politician and humanitarian who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. A member of the Democratic Party, Carter was the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975, and a Georgia state senator from 1963 to 1967.
