20 de mar. de 2020 · Jerry Slick was the drummer and co-founder of the Great Society, a pioneering acid rock band in the ’60s San Francisco scene. He also had a career as a cinematographer and documentary filmmaker, working with Steve Jobs and PBS.
Best known as the original group of model-turned-singer Grace Slick, the initial lineup of the band also featured her then-husband Jerry Slick on drums, his brother Darby Slick on guitar, David Miner on vocals and guitar, Bard DuPont on bass, and Peter van Gelder on flute, bass, and saxophone.
Jerry Slick was a San Francisco musician and filmmaker who married Grace Slick in 1961 and formed the Great Society band with her in 1965. He died of cancer in 2020 at age 80.
Jerry Slick was the original drummer of The Great Society, a San Francisco rock band that featured Grace Slick as a singer. The band released only one single, "Someone to Love", and disbanded in 1966 after Grace joined Jefferson Airplane.
Jerry Slick, David Miner, Grace Slick, Peter Vangelder, Darby Slick: From October to December 1965 they recored several tracks for Autumn Records at Golden Gate Studios which were produced by Sly Steward.Tracks included "Free Advice" and "Somebody To Love" which were used as the bands first single (Northbeach 1001).
Jerry Slick was born on 8 August 1939 in Berkeley, California, USA. He was a cinematographer and director, known for Steel Arena (1973), Congo the Movie: Descent Into Zinj (1995) and Great Performances (1971). He was married to Grace Slick. He died on 20 March 2020 in the USA.
