Romeo Maurice "Jerome" Arnold (born November 26, 1936) is an American bassist, known for his work with Howlin' Wolf, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in the 1960s. Born in Chicago, Arnold was an original member of the Butterfield band, he was subsequently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
With this booking, they persuaded bassist Jerome Arnold and drummer Sam Lay (both from Howlin' Wolf's touring band) to form a group with them in 1963. Their engagement at the club was highly successful and brought the group to the attention of record producer Paul A. Rothchild.
The group, originally composed of Paul Butterfield, Michael Bloom- field, Elvin Bishop, Sam Lay (later replaced by Billy Davenport), Mark Naftalin, and Jerome Arnold, made true blues accessible to the growing youth counterculture, and in the process opened up the possibilities for what rock & roll could really be.

Bassist Jerome Arnold and drummer Sam Lay were hired from Howlin' Wolf's backing band, and lead guitarist Mike Bloomfield had been plucked from a crosstown rival by producer Paul Rothchild; together they formed 1965's most imposing modern blues band behind singer and harmonica player Paul Butterfield.
