Young's first stable band was the Squires, with Ken Koblun, Jeff Wuckert and Bill Edmondson on drums, who had a local hit called "The Sultan". Over three years, the band played hundreds of shows at community centers, dance halls, clubs and schools in Winnipeg and other parts of Manitoba.

19 de nov. de 2023 · In 1960, Neil formed his first real band The Squires with friends Ken Koblun, Jeff Wuckert and Bill Edmondson. They had a local hit with Young‘s first song “The Sultan” in 1963. After The Squires broke up, Young dropped out of high school and moved to Toronto to pursue a professional music career.
In the year 1963, he formed his first stable band in Kelvin High School, The Squires, with Ken Koblun, Jeff Wuckert, and Bill Edmondson. He left his school and used to perform at Fort William with his band where he first met Stephen Stills, a member of a folk-rock band, with whom he collaborated in later years.
