Janet Dean Fodor is a leading psycholinguist who has a BA in Psychology and Philosophy from Oxford University and a PhD in Linguistics from MIT. She is known for her research on syntactic processing, language acquisition, and filler-gap psycholinguistics, and has supervised many dissertations on languages such as Arabic, Bulgarian, and Turkish.

Janet was a faculty member in the UConn Department of Linguistics from 1973 until 1986, when she took up a position as Distinguished Professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
