Lois Monk. . ( m. 1968) . James Phillip Welch Jr. (November 18, 1940 – August 4, 2003), who grew up within the Blackfeet and A'aninin cultures of his parents, was a Native American novelist and poet, [1] considered a founding author of the Native American Renaissance.
James Welch was a prominent author of novels and poetry featuring the American West. He was born in Montana and wrote about the lives and cultures of Native Americans, especially the Blackfoot and Gros Ventre. He also wrote about the Battle of the Little Bighorn and the history of the Plains Indians.

James Welch was an American Indian writer who published several novels and a book of poetry about the history and culture of his people. He received his Indian bloodline from his mother, a Gros Ventre, and his father, a Blackfoot. He wrote about the decline of the Indian reservation, the massacre at Marias River, and the heroism of his ancestors.
