At the age of 12, J.P. started his musical career playing keyboards for a Top 40 band and at age 15, switched to the electric guitar after seeing an English band playing Led Zeppelin. At 18, J.P. moved to Toronto, Canada and studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. While at school, J.P. went to a Buddy Miles concert in London, Ontario.
